What Is an ADHD Assessment?

An ADHD assessment is more than a questionnaire or checklist.

A comprehensive evaluation considers your current symptoms, developmental history, functioning across areas of your life, and other factors that can affect attention and executive functioning.

The goal isn’t simply to determine whether you “have ADHD.” It’s to develop a clearer understanding of what is happening and why.

ADHD doesn’t exist in a vacuum.

An assessment should consider the whole person rather than relying on a single test score.

My clinical background includes extensive experience as a licensed mental health professional, as well as graduate-level training and practicum experience in psychological and neuropsychological assessment.

I approach adult ADHD assessment with an emphasis on understanding your history and current functioning rather than simply checking boxes on a symptom questionnaire.

What You Receive

At the conclusion of the assessment, we will review the findings together.

You will receive a written report documenting the assessment findings, clinical impressions, and recommendations.

If ADHD is supported by the evaluation, recommendations may include strategies for managing symptoms and suggestions for appropriate follow-up care.

Important: An ADHD assessment does not automatically mean that medication will be prescribed. Medication decisions are made by an appropriately licensed medical prescriber.

Do I need to have been diagnosed with ADHD as a child?

No. Adults frequently seek assessment after recognizing longstanding patterns that were not identified during childhood. The assessment will explore your developmental history as part of determining whether ADHD is an appropriate diagnosis.

Can anxiety, depression, trauma, sleep problems, or other issues look like ADHD?

Yes. Several conditions and circumstances can affect attention, concentration, memory, motivation, and executive functioning. That’s one reason a comprehensive assessment is important.

Do you prescribe ADHD medication?

No. The assessment is focused on evaluation and diagnostic clarification. If medication is appropriate, you can discuss treatment options with a qualified medical prescriber.

Is this the same as taking an ADHD test online?

No. Screening questionnaires can be useful, but they do not by themselves establish an ADHD diagnosis. A clinical assessment considers questionnaire results alongside your history, symptoms, and overall functioning.

Can you provide documentation for accommodations?

If appropriate, your assessment report can document the clinical findings. Specific accommodation decisions are made by the school, employer, licensing body, or other organization according to its own requirements.
